Its that time of year again.... next Tuesday is officially Summer Solstice 2011! If you are reading my this (I do appreciate it) chances are you are not participating in the 3HO Summer Solstice celebrations in New Mexico. Thats ok. I'm not either. I have my own personal plans on such a blessed day. I want to, however, share the significance with you. Perhaps you'll choose to participate in a group yoga session.
Yogi Bhajan said, "Revolve your life around Summer and Winter Solstice and everything else will be taken care of."
Summer Solstice is the one day each year when the sun's energy is at it's highest. In scientific terms - the tilt of the sun is most inclined towards the sun. Thus, June 21st is the longest day of the year.
The 2011 Summer Solstice Celebration with 3HO is taking place now in New Mexico. Here is a link for information - http://www.3ho.org/summer-solstice/.
I'm hoping to make it to this great celebration next summer! Its an all inclusive experience for your mind, body, and soul. They do daily group Sadhana (ambrosial hours 4am-6am yoga practice), White Tantric Yoga, other Kundalini classes taught by various teachers, and eat a cleansing Ayurvedic diet through out the stay of the celebration. Its a time of rejoice and a time of rebirth. A time to be thankful for the summer, for the sun, and the beautiful energy we receive. For me personally, I like to use this as a 1/2 way check point for my year. Make sure I'm still on track and where I want to be.
Here, in Los Angeles, there are other things going on:
Griffith Observatory offers a Summer Solstice event for free. If you dare face the crowds, it sounds fun!
One thing I'm more interested in, and is yoga based, is the Summer Solstice, Open the Arcline and Receive the Blessings of Solstice at Golden Bridge Yoga in Hollywood. Class is taught by the beloved, Tej. This beautiful class begins at 7:30pm on Tuesday evening.
Whatever you do, make it count! Enjoy the day! Enjoy the sunlight! Be outside, listen to our Mother Earth.
Sat nam.
I'd love to hear what you ended up doing! Comment away...........
