Swadhisthana: The Sacral Chakra

The second Chakra is called Swadhisthana or the Sacral Chakra.

Element:  Water

Swadhisthana is symbolized by a white lotus within which is a crescent moon, with six orange petals.  It is located in the sacrum, a large triangular bone at the base of the spine and the upper back part of the pelvic cavity.  The second Chakra is considered to correspond to the testes or the ovaries that produce the various sex hormones involved in the reproductive cycle.The key issues involving Swadisthana are relationships, violence, addictions, basic emotional needs, and pleasure. Physically, Swadisthana governs the reproduction in men and women.  It governs creativity, joy, desire, personal power, relationships, sensuality, and pleasure.





Organ/Gland association:  Sex organs, reproductive glands, kidneys, bladder.

Yoga exercises to strengthen/open chakra:  Frog Pose, Cobra Pose, Butterfly, Sat Kriya, Cat-Cow, Pelvic Lifts.
